What’s the difference between ELT, TEFL & TESOL?

The commonly used acronyms ELT, TEFL & TESOL can be confusing, especially since they are often used interchangeably. ELT stands for English Language Teaching and is preferred by publishers. TEFL is the one most people use, and it stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Lastly, TESOL stands for Teaching English to Students of Other Languages.

How well established is the Teacher Training Course at Golders Green College?

The college has been providing Trinity Cert TESOL courses since 1995. We have trained hundreds of teachers over the years, making us one of the premier TEFL/TESOL training centres currently operating.

What kind of Teacher Training courses does the college offer?

We offer the full-time Trinity Cert TESOL and the part-time Trinity Cert TESOL. The Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of other languages (Cert TESOL) will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to take up your first post as an ESOL teacher.

Who checks the quality of the Teacher Training Courses?

Trinity is an independent UK examination board.

Trinity checks every course we run and conducts the externally assessed components of the Cert.TESOL courses. Trinity qualifications are accepted by the British Council and fit into the QCA framework of national UK qualifications.

Will the college help me get a job after the course?

Our previous trainees are currently working all over the world in places such as South America, France, Slovakia, Spain, Qatar, Africa, the UK, the USA, Russia, Ireland, China, Japan, Thailand and Iceland. The course includes advice on job searching and we provide links with employers seeking newly qualified teachers worldwide.

We also have a policy of employing successful trainees to work at Golders Green College during our busy periods.

Can foreign nationals take Teacher Training Courses?

Yes, they need IELTS band 7.0 (on all sub-scores) or the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) to take the Trinity Cert TESOL.
